    Q: Orphan Domain Names

A: Saving your Domain Name from a bandit registrar is not as easy as just transfering it into Freeparking.

We are getting a large number of Domains that are being transferred to us which are due for renewal when their current, less scrupulous, registrars are trying to extract ridiculous sums for the renewal.

Unfortunately, if the renewal date is too close to the transfer date (less than 1 month usually), we WILL NOT be able to renew the Domain for you. Also transferring the Domain into our control systems does not include a renewal.

Apologies, but this is how the registrar system works and it is not our choice.

Q: How do I transfer in a .com, .net or .org Domain?

A: The exact details of how to transfer a Name into our system will depend upon where the name was originally registered and/or the current Domain registrar system the Name resides within.

Your current host should be able to inform you what their requirements are for transferring a Name out of their system (they all vary!).

The completion notice we sent you will contain the details of the Domain Name servers you need to have the name transferred onto.

Q: How do I transfer in a .UK domain?

A: The first stage of transferring a .uk domain name to our system is to ask your current ISP to change the IPSTAG to "FIBRANET".

If your current ISP is unable or unwilling to change the IPSTAG, you can ask Nominet to change it for you, however this will take some time. Nominet can be contacted at http://www.nominet.org.uk.

Once the IPSTAG has been changed to "FIBRANET", you can then log into the Freeparking members area and go to the Maintenance page. There you will find a section called "Point a UK Domain Name to our Name Servers". This will automatically send a request to Nominet to change the DNS information to our nameservers.

It can take up to 24 hours for the Nominet WHOIS to be updated and a further 36 hours for the information to be propogated around the internet.

Q: I am transferring in a Domain close to the renewal date.

    A: Note Regarding Transferred-In Domains:
If you have transferred a Domain Name to us you may still be responsible for the handling the renewal fee on that Domain. If the transfer was not fully completed then you may need to pay the original registrar for the renewal.

If you are unsure where the renewal should be paid, please log a support request at: http://support.freeparking.co.uk/.

Q: .UK tag changed but still on old DNS.

A: Once your current host has changed the IPSTAG to "FIBRANET" you can visit the "Maintenance" section of the members area and click the "Point a UK Domain Name to our Name Servers" button at the bottom of the page.

Our system will then send an automatic email to the Nominet automoton to change the DNS information on the WHOIS database... NOTE: This may take up to 24 hours to activate, and up to 36 hours for the Domain Name to propogate around the Internet.

Q: .UK tag not yet changed.

A: It is your current host who must change the IPSTAG to "FIBRANET" in order to transfer the Name to us.

If your current host is unwilling or unable to make this change, you can approach Nominet and request that they make this change for you.

Contact details for Nominet can be found at: www.nominet.org
