Please DO NOT open any attachment. These emails have NOT come from us. This virus may worm its way to all addresses located in your email clients file. We would advise and recommend you use http://housecall.trendmicro.com and check for updates at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Q: How do I configure email on my Blackberry A: Some blackberry servers assume that the MX records for the domain are the same as the mailserver for the domain. If as in the case of Freeparking the MX records point to a spam filtering system in front of the POP server then the blackberry mail setup may need to be manually set to use pop.freeparking.co.uk as the target mailserver. Please contact your blackberry provider for exact setup details. Q: Google Apps Mx Records - I get the error 'invalid characters' when entering the parameters as defined by google A: The mx records for google apps need to be entered in lower case. Also please note that the 'trailing dot' and priority number specified by google are not required for our DNS manager. Q: How do I stop a domain from forwarding email? (blackhole) A: You can redirect all aliases that you do not want delivered to blackhole@freeparking.com. The email will then be 'blackholed' and permanently deleted at our servers For mailforwarder accounts you can change the default email forward (the catchall) to blackhole@freeparking.com using 'Edit Active Domain Name Properties' from the maintenance menus (My Domains drop down menu, then select 'Maintain a Domain'). Q: Receiving SPAM from my domain name A: Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this awful misuse of your domain name. It is called "Joe Jobbing", whereby somebody hijacks your domain name for nefarious purposes such as the sending of spam. The following is a link to wikipedia which explains it very well. Also included in the link are possible recourses of action: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_job One thing you can do to stop getting the messages is to choose a number of forwarding aliases (e.g. info@yourdomain.co.uk, you@yourdomain.com etc.) and then set the wildcard (i.e. @yourdomain.com) to forward to a blackhole. To do this, go into the maintenance section of freeparking.co.uk (located in the 'My Domains' drop down tab)and then Edit Active Domain Name Properties. Enter blackhole@freeparking.com in the email forwarding box and anything not going to the specified aliases will forward into a blackhole and be deleted straight away. Be sure to do the last part after you have set up the forwarding accounts to avoid having valid mail go into the blackhole. Q: My Email forwarding appears slow. A: To reset your mail forwarding, use the Edit Email Aliases option from the maintenance panel and remove and then re-enter all forwarding entries. Then please wait for approximately 10 minutes before testing the changes to allow the mailserver databases time to rebuild. Should this not work then you can refresh your zonefile by going to the Manage your own DNS Zone File section of the maintenance menu and selecting the Refresh zone file using current settings. Please give the changes at least 10 minutes to come into effect. If you are forwarding mail to a domain that used to be held on our mailserver but has now been redirected to another companies mailserver, please ask us to check that our mailserver has had the old forwarding record removed. Q: My Emails are forwarding to the wrong destination email address A: The most common cause for this is where you are forwarding mail to a domain that was once on our mailservers but has now been redirected to another companies mailservers. For example your domain A.Com forwards to B.Com. Some time ago you transferred B.Com out to another host however there are still email records on our mailforwarders for B.Com so mail to A.Com may be misrouted. The solution is to log into maintenance for B.Com and change the mail and mail2 records (MX records) to the IP addresses of your new mailserver. You can get these IP addresses from your new email provider. If for some reason you cannot get this information use the IP address 72.1.201.129 Once the change has been made our mailforwarders will update generally within 10 minutes. Please note, if you use another ISP as primary mailserver, we do not provide our servers for use as backup MX servers at this time. Q: SUSPECTED SPAM messages on subject line. A: This does NOT mean that the Freeparking email servers are blocked. Our systems query a blocking list for IP addresses of email servers connecting to ours. If a sending server is on the list our server will rewrite the email subject to include *SUSPECTED SPAM*. The person that sent you the email should take this up with their ISP or the blocking list maintainer using the URL added to the message subject. We have had to take this measure as blocklists sometimes incorrectly list our servers when our customers report mail that has been forwarded by our servers. We ask that you do not raise support requests to freeparking on this issue - we would only refer you to the blocking list maintainer. Q: Error messages are being sent to email senders. A: If you are using our POP3 email system, ensure that your POP3 mailbox is not full by logging into the mailbox via the webmail interface. (http://webmail.YOURDOMAINNAME.tld/) or http://webmail.freeparking.co.uk/. If the space used bar in the left hand menu is Red, then you will need to delete some emails to reduce the amount of space you are using. Please note that when you delete emails from the Inbox folder, they are actually transferred to the "Deleted Items" folder and must be deleted from there to reduce the amount of space used. Q: I don't receive mails with some attachments. A: Our mail systems block any attachment with potentially damaging content such as .pif .bat .exe .com or .scr files. There is a 10Mb limit for attachments sent or received. Q: I get a message: 550-host is in a black list. A: This does NOT mean that the Freeparking email servers are blacklisted. The host that originated the message has been blacklisted at the organisation mentioned in the error. The ISP which uses that IP address will need to contact the spam blacklisting organisation to get the block removed. We will not remove this feature from our servers, we have a zero tolerance regarding spam. Please do not raise a support request for this issue. Q: What is Greylisting? A: Greylisting is a method of defending electronic mail users against e-mail spam. A mail transfer agent which uses greylisting will "temporarily reject" any email from a sender it does not recognize. If the mail is legitimate, the originating server will try again to send it later, at which time the destination will accept it. If the mail is from a spammer, it will probably not be retried. When a mail server is greylisted, the duration of time between the initial delay and the re-transmission is variable. Some mail servers use a default of 4 hours, though most will retry sooner. Most open-source MTAs have retry rules set to attempt delivery after around fifteen minutes. Our servers do not currently use greylisting, although many recipient servers (e.g. BT) will. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greylisting Q: Using Freeparking mail servers as back-up servers. A: If you use another IP as primary mailserver, we do not provide our servers for use as backup MX servers at this time. Q: My .co.uk domain has been suspended. A: As part of the terms and conditions of all registrars the details in WHOIS need to be correct. If Nominet are unable to contact you for verification, or you do not respond to them, they will suspend your domain. Once a domain name is suspended any service associated to the domain name will stop. This is beyond our control. In order to re-instate your domain name you will need to contact Nominet at http://www.nominet.org.uk/ It is advisable to keep all personal details up to date. Q: Email senders are receiving Spamcop error messages. A: Please ask the sender to ask their ISP to contact spamcop.net. |
